This part of the River Ebro and its tributories here in the North East of Spain are the home to one of the largest array of bird life in Europe. From landscapes that range from desert like terrain to reed and tree lined river banks, meandering there way through fruit fields, thus giving home to a large diversity of birds ranging from Waders to raptors. Many different scenarios are open here to you, travelling only short distances and cutting down on time, to view those much awaited target birds. Maybe a slow boat trip along the Ebro with it’s steep sided gorges, home to Griffon and Egyptian vultures, with other raptors also being resident. Perhaps a stroll along the banks of the Ebro tributries the Segre and the Cinca, watching Little Bittern, Squacco and Night Heron to name but a few, or a day at the Lleida Steppes ( Los Monegros ) which is just a short thirty minute drive. Or, if you feel a little more adventurous, then the Aragonese Pyrenees are an approximate one and a half hours drive, home of Llammergeier and the illusive Wall Creeper amongst other ornithological delights !

Richard of Aragon Bird Tours has lived in the Small village of Torrente de Cinca, Huesca along with his family for five years now, gaining a wealth of local knowledge. This area, rich in agriculture ( predominately fruit ) is set in close proximity to three of Spain’s most famous rivers, the Ebro along with it’s tributories the rivers Segre & Cinca. The abundance of bird life is truly amazing and is a genuine secret waiting to be explored. His local understanding of the area is enormous He has gained his knowledge of the different species and their habits through hours upon hours of watching and listening. He can tell you as to what species you may expect to see in different areas during the changing seasons. But Spain holds many other interests other than it’s wonderful bird population. Reminders of the horrific Civil war of 1936 - 1939 are still visible in many towns and villages which where mainly monasteries and churches burnt out and reduced to ruin, with many now being restored back to their former glory.
